Spotify have introduced a new feature that combines spoken-word content with music, which will be available to podcasters.
Using Spotify's podcasting app, Anchor, creators will be able to combine their shows with music from Spotify's music catalogue, with musicians and songwriters compensated in the same way as when their songs are streamed in the regular manner.
Spotify envisage that the feature will allow podcasters to create content that is similar to traditional radio shows which mix music and chat from DJs.
Only Spotify Premium listeners will be able to hear the tracks in full, however, with free users limited to 30-second previews.
Spotify have launched seven new shows that use this feature "to showcase the potential for creativity with this new format".
